Vida Does Not Want
a Horse
Children's Book Illustration
Vida Vil Ikke Ha Noen Hest, 'Vida Does Not Want a Horse' is a charming children’s book based on a true story about a young girl who doesn’t want anything—not even a horse! Written by the talented Rebekka Irene Skjæveland and illustrated by me, this sweet and fun book explores the idea of contentment and the beauty of embracing simplicity. It’s a reminder that sometimes, happiness comes from loving those around you, without needing anything extra.
This was both Rebekka’s and my first book project, and I learned so much from the experience. What made it even more exciting was that we worked on it remotely—I was based in Australia, and Rebekka in Norway. It just goes to show that distance can’t limit collaboration!

My role in the project was to bring Rebekka’s ideas and visions to life through illustration. It was a truly rewarding process to translate her words into images.
Here are some comments on the book, gathered by Rebekka, translated from Norwegian:
“This was so funny I had to read it again immediately!”
- Vilja, 4 years old
”I liked this book a lot! I chose to write about it in the newspaper we made in school.”
- Makary, 9 years old
