I created the artwork for Sparks of Christmas by Mona Krogstad, a playful and contemporary take on a Christmas jazz album.

For the cover, I wanted to capture the particular atmosphere of a snowy winter landscape rather than illustrate Christmas in a literal way. The image is inspired by a pine forest covered in snow, with the shapes and colours kept loose and abstract. The dusty pink comes from that strange winter light you sometimes get when heavy snow clouds meet a bright, snow-covered landscape when the light seems to bounce around between the clouds and the snow.

The result is a cover that feels wintry and familiar, but at the same time a little surreal and playful, which felt like a good fit for the character of the music. The album brings together well-known Christmas songs with Norwegian Christmas traditions, arranged and performed with a distinctly jazz-oriented approach.

I also created the artwork for the single Det hev ei rose sprunge, giving the song its own visual identity separate from the album cover. The hymn has a very different, quieter character, so it was an opportunity to explore another visual direction within the same overall project.
